A Horton man faces three counts of attempted murder of a police officer after he’s accused of firing shots at officers leading to a standoff Feb 3, according to Albertville police.
Nicolas Pascual Gaspar, 26, also is charged with illegal possession of a firearm. He is being held on $1 million bond and a detainer for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Albertville police responded at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 to the 100 block of Bobwhite Drive to a reported fighting involving a gun. They located a man allegedly assaulted by his brother and got him to safety and treatment by paramedics.
Officers were later told that the suspect had fired shots at brother before they arrived.
When officers approached Gaspar’s residence, they were met with gunfire, Albertville police said in a press release. Officers returned fire and Gaspar fled back into the residence. For about two hours, he refused to come out, and additional law enforcement agencies were called in.
The Marshall County Joint Special Response Team responded and eventually, Gaspar came out and was taken into custody.
He was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound and when he was discharged Feb. 4 he was booked into the Albertville jail initially, and later taken to the Marshall County Detention Center and booked on three counts of attempted murder of an officer and illegal possession of a firearm.
