ALBERTVILLE — After a tough loss to the Class 3A No. 1 Plainview Bears last week, the No. 3 Geraldine Bulldogs responded with a statement win as they traveled to Asbury on Friday night and left with a 57-0 shutout win over the Rams.
The win for Geraldine improves them to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Class 3A, Region 8 play.
The Bulldogs scored early and often to open up the ballgame as they produced 42 first quarter points. Opening up the scoring for Geraldine was a 36-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Jon Beck Wade to Braxton Franklin for six. A good PAT by Lucas Phillips would give Geraldine an early 7-0 lead.
The next two Geraldine drives were capped off by big touchdown runs by running back Jordon Lankford and Wade. Lankford’s touchdown run would be for 33-yards while Wade’s would be from 39-yards out.
Wade continued his impressive game by going back to scoring through the air as he connected with wide receiver AJ Carter for a 24-yard score to put Geraldine up 28-0.
The Bulldogs kept adding on to their lead as Ayden Rains joined in on the fun with a long 54-yard score. Geraldine finished the first quarter scoring with a 65-yard punt return by Carter to go up 42-0 over the Rams.
To start the second quarter, Geraldine’s Jacob Bryant would run in a 28-yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 48-0. A good 2-pt conversion by Kade Justice to Rhett England would make it a 50-0 lead at halftime.
The cherry on top for Geraldine would be a final score in the third quarter with Jesse Rider rushing for a 1-yard touchdown to give Geraldine the 57-0 shutout win over Asbury.
The Bulldogs were led by Wade who finished with three total touchdowns. Wade finished 3-6 for 85 yards and two passing touchdowns. Wade also rushed twice for 67 yards and a touchdown. Lankford would finish with three rushes for 86 yards and a touchdown. Carter and Franklin would each finish with a receiving touchdown.
The Rams would be led by Blake Hillis who finished with 77 total yards. Kolby Lewis led the receivers with two catches for 39 yards.
Geraldine will look to add another win next Friday as they host DAR. The Rams will travel to take on North Jackson.
