Former lawmaker honored for decades of service to SSCC

After three decades of dedicated service to Snead State Community College, Frank McDaniel of Albertville has resigned from the Snead State Foundation Board of Directors.
McDaniel officially resigned during the Board meeting on July 7, 2026, while serving as president of the organization. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, the Foundation Board unanimously bestowed upon him the title of director emeritus.
“It’s hard to find the right words to describe the legacy Frank McDaniel leaves at Snead State. For 30 years, he has played an integral part in supporting the mission of the College, not just in his role on the Foundation Board but also as a state legislator and community leader,” Snead State Community College President Joe Whitmore said.
“Whether it was allocating resources, giving of his time, or sharing about the progress or the needs of the College, he has been an ally, an advocate, and a friend.”
McDaniel’s influence extends beyond his service to the Foundation Board. He represented Alabama’s 26th House District in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1990 until 2010. During his tenure in the Legislature, he became known as a strong advocate for education, workforce development, economic growth and opportunities for citizens throughout Marshall County and the state of Alabama.
He has also served with the Marshall County Economic Development Council, the Alabama Commerce Commission, and numerous civic organizations. McDaniel was a co-founder of the Marshall County Community Corrections Program, helping create initiatives that strengthened communities and provided opportunities for rehabilitation and workforce participation.
Notable evidence of his support and contributions lies with the Snead State’s aviation program. In recognition of his tireless advocacy for workforce development, aviation education, and the continued growth of the Albertville Regional Airport, the city renamed the facility that houses the Alabama Aviation College to be known as the Frank McDaniel Aviation Center.
“He may have stepped down from the Foundation, but his impact will always be remembered at Snead State,” Whitmore said.
“We have a saying that definitely applies to Frank McDaniel. Once a Parson, always a Parson. He will always be an important part of the Parson family.”
