TALLADEGA, Ala. — The Snead State men get a bye when the state two-year college basketball tournament begins this week.
Both the men’s and women’s Parsons teams earned No. 2 seeds in the Alabama Community College Conference Division II tournament, played in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center at Talladega College.
Coastal Alabama – North earned the top seed in the men’s bracket, while Chattahoochee Valley was the top women’s team.
The Snead women (22-3) come into the tournament with a three-game winning streak. The Parsons tied Chattahoochee Valley with 11-1 records in the ACCC. Tazi Harris comes into the tournament as the top shooter in the division at 53.5% from the field, including 40% on 3-pointers. She’s also averaging a division-leading 11 rebounds per game.
The Snead men (22-7) finished four games behind Coastal in the division standings. Ansar Osman is third in the division — and the top scorer from teams that made the tournament — with 18.9 points per game. Tristan Gilmore has the best field goal percentage, 72.9%, and Marquette Dean Adkins leads in long-distance shooting at 50% on 3-pointers.
Snead also has several basketball players making the grade as ACCC commissioner’s honor roll in the fall semester, including men’s players Adkins, Ra’Shawn Elzy, Carson Purkey, Andrew Signorelli and London Townsend; and women’s players Kayla Childress, Laylah Davis, Maliyah Green, Harris, Lauren Jimmerson, Skylar Lassiter, Omaya Nelson and Bree Sexton.
The Snead women made the team honor roll for a cumulative GPA of 3 or higher.
