UN-BEAU-LIEVABLE: Bennett duo shatter school records in 52-6 region win over Lee-Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE — School records were shattered on Friday night when the Boaz Pirates traveled to Huntsville to take on Lee-Huntsville in a Class 5A, Region 8 matchup. The Pirates cruised to a 52-6 win over Lee with big performances by quarterback Beau Bennett and wide receiver Sage Bennett. Beau would break a Boaz single-game record with 379 passing yards while also tying the single-game record with five passing touchdowns. Sage would break the single-game record for most receiving yards in a game with 244 while also tying for the single-game record with four receiving touchdowns.
With the 52-6 victory over Lee, the Pirates improved to 4-1 overall with a 3-0 record in Region 8 play.
To kick off the Region 8 matchup, the Pirates struck first with Beau connecting with his first touchdown pass to Sage from 6-yards out. The first quarter would be capped off by two more touchdowns with running back Dayton Porter running in a 7-yard touchdown and Beau throwing his second touchdown of the night to Sage from 66-yards out to take a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.
The Pirates continued their dominance with a 24-point second quarter which secured them a 45-0 lead at halftime. To start the second quarter, Beau would toss his third passing touchdown to Sage from 13-yards out.
Boaz’s next score would come from Porter who captured his second rushing touchdown from 3-yards out.
Boaz tight end Jaxxon Taylor would join in on the scoring fun as he caught Beau’s fourth passing touchdown from 57-yards out.
To cap off the first half, Boaz kicker Andrew Pena would knock down a 42-yard field goal at the buzzer to give Boaz a 45-0 lead at halftime.
The final Boaz score would come in the third quarter with Beau tossing his fifth and final touchdown of the night to Sage from 61-yards out. Despite a late score by Lee, the Pirates would take the Region 8 victory 52-6.
Beau would finish the game 15-21 passing with 379 passing yards and five touchdowns. Sage would finish with 10 catches for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Porter would rush 13 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Mac Thompson and DaKarter Gargon would produce interceptions.
Boaz will enjoy a bye week next week and will return to action on October 2 when they host a Region 8 matchup against Columbia.
